I'm hoping you'll join me in taking action on methyl iodide, a known carcinogen that will likely contaminate groundwater, from being approved for use in the U.S. Big agricultural interests want to use it as a pesticide, fumigating soil at a rate of hundreds of pounds per acre.

Scientists familiar with the chemical from around the country agree that it is too hazardous to be used as an agricultural pesticide.

Am I the only one that knows about Thorium? Why are we talking about using Thorium instead of the current Uranium? Does any one know that Thorium is abundant in the USA, easy to get at and if used does not produce radioactive waste that has to be stored (that because it can be used over and over again). Asian citrus psyllid threatens Organic Farmers?
This pest has been found in rural San Diego County which has a high concentration of organic farmers, are being threaten with chemical sprayings aimed at controlling. Officials say it is necessary, but I am wondering why they cant use organic methods which will do the job?
What are they saying that
1: they dont know of organic methods of control
or
2. that organic methods dont work?

704 million years?

Existing nuclear plants produce 2,000 tons of the long-lived waste each year, most of which is moved into pools of chilled water that allow the spent -- but still highly lethal -- uranium-235 to slowly and safely decay. Uranium-235 has a half-life of nearly 704 million years -- meaning that half its atoms will decay in that time.

So what is wrong with this picture? Storing nuclear waste for that long? Outa sight outa mind?

Schwarzenegger's effort to expedite highway projects angers environmentalists.....I am very confused. While I understand the need to act now and move forward with the creation of new jobs, I do not understand why our Governor does not start with the obvious... fix what is broken first.There are plenty of projects that can be started and here is a quick to do list that has no environmental issues....1. fix the roads... make them environmentally safer to use and to repair,2. fix our schools [...]
