Potato Bugs 6 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
your problem is related to 2 things
1. variety of potato you grow
2. soil minerals available
re variety have you tried growing heirloom ? try seeds of change and get some of their potatoes. try a few dif varieties till one clicks for you.
re mineral bugs will attack your plants if deficient in minerals... know what rock dust is?

I have already tried 4 different kinds of Potatoes. I have no idea where to get potatoes other than those sold in stores. Never heard of Heirloom? Seeds of change is that on the web? Store?
I had my soil tested=Good.
I don't know what rock dust is.
Farmers around here have been planting potatoes for 45 years. They all have huge infestations problems. I pulled all my plants last year and brought them to the dump. I had 3 different kinds planted .When I saw the infestation that occurred in only 2 weeks and I had tried everything I could I gave up. Help-Frustrated Tara

the problem is due to farmers growing for so long chemicals that the bugs have gone nuts and any potate grown around there is food for the bugs. Heirloom means that it was grown organically for hundreds of years. I looked it up for you on the interest and I found this site http://www.marxfoods.com/products/Heirloom-Potatoes?gclid=CLWYh_egmaACFSMXawodB18gTg
Try that.
You can find more buy searching heirloom potates on google. I would try a few dif varieties till you find one that works for you. I would call them up and talk with the growers and tell them your problem. I a sure they will be able to tell you a great variety to grow.

No Problem
You get the idea right?
you can do it organically by getting healthy varieties and by making soil healthy too.

Actually I do have one more question if you don't mind.I found Heirloom potatoes in PEI, Canada. They have 3 varieties going back to 1800's. Would I plant all three kinds all at once or plant one variety per year. I really appreciate your advise. I tried to get help around here and on the web you were the only one who answered me. Thank you.Tara

well
you could plant all three and see which one makes it thru..
also remember that you must admend the soil with compost and rock dust.

Here is a trick
grow the potatoes above ground!
they do not need to be in soil but can be grown in hay in a pile above ground.
