Compost Tea Soaking Time

  • COMPOST TEA
    Spray it
    Play with it
    Give it to your plants.
  • PANTY HOSE?
In a panty hose, place 1 cup compost, tie into ball and allow to sit in 5 gallons clean water for how long?  See Soaking Time.
  • GLASS BOTTLES
Glass makes the best for capturing solar energy into your compost tea.
  • WHAT IS CLEAN WATER?
Clean water is water that has been energized by either allowing suns energy to pass through or by raising energy of water. Contains no chlorine or any chemicals. Use a garden Filter.
  • MOLASSES?
Adding 1/4 cup of molasses to your compost tea before you allow it to sit, will increase bacterial content of tea as well as help to raise energy level of tea.
  • ROCK DUST
Compost tea will work better if you add a finely ground rock dust to the panty hose on a regular bases.
  • COFFEE TEA
Add 1 cup coffee grinds onto compost mix.
ctea1_small Compost tea is not a special tea that people drink, but rather a liquid that is made from compost. The best way to make compost tea is to place a cup of compost into a panty hose and tie into a ball. This will act like a tea bag and when hung in water it will spread into the water. The thing to do is to tie the compost ball onto a stick and drop into a gallon (or larger) container of water. Glass bottles make the best compost tea. Colored glass like wine or beer or other type of glass bottle, will also make good compost tea containers as they absorb the suns energy. The container should be placed in the sun. The length of time depends on what you are using it for.

Soaking Time  The info below tells you the length of time  to make compost tea and the purpose to use it for.

  1.
    1. Bacterial sprays encourage beneficial bacteria to grow  and crowd out bad bacterial diseases and pests.
      1. A good bacterial formula is Nitron A-35. Follow instructions  to increase bacterial activity.
      2. Agri-Gro is also another excellent bacterial/enzyme product you can learn to use to increase bacterial activity.
      3. SuperSeaweed also provides bacteria / enzyme as well as mineral needs of plants and soil.
    2. Mineral sprays such as rock dust milk, calcium sprays, milk sprays, gypsum sprays, iron sprays; all increase mineral availability to bacteria which in turn feeds plants.
    1. Works on the following diseases:
      1. Leaf Spot
      2. Curly Top
      3. Mildew
      4. Downy Mildew
      5. Early or Late Blight
      6. Powdery Mildew
      7. Damping Off
  2. 1 hr...............Normal compost tea spray good for bacterial sprays, mineral sprays. will help to prevent diseases on most plants and trees. Should have no odor.
  3. 4 hrs..............a stronger mixture, excellent for controlling most bacterial diseases. Works great on roses, most vegetables and trees. 24 hrs.............a powerful mixture for
    controlling
    :
    1. Rust Diseases,
    2. Blight Diseases
    3. Leaf Diseases
    4. Most Wilts
    5. Most Rot
    6. Repels most insects especially ants
48 hrs............This is good for very bad Blights, Wilts and Virus related diseases. Should not smell bad, but should be strong smelling.
    Controls:
    1. Most Blights
    2. Most Wilts
    3. Most Mosaic virus
  4. 1 week..................Now were talking! Should have a very strong odor! Use to control most heavy duty diseases such as:
    1. Bacterial Blight
    2. Mosaic
    3. Damping Off
    4. Mildew
    5. Black rot
    6. Fusarium and Verticillium Wilts
    7. Anthracnose

Effective against diseases which require insects to spread..

Please note length of time depends on temp of environment.

You can increase effectiveness of the above mixture by adding one or more of the following combinations (depending on use):

Soap will increase effectiveness as a wetting agent. Use any natural soap for this purpose. Only add enough to wet the water. Try 5 tablespoons per gallon water. I Like using Dr. Bronners Peppermint soap for this use as a small amount will not harm beneficials.
  1. Molasses can be sprayed along with the compost tea. The trick is to add the molasses (about 1/4 cup for a quart or if using 3 gallons use 1 cup) ,add when you first make it. Allow to sit in the sun for several days.
  2. Vinegar can be sprayed to increase the energy of the plant reducing diseases and pests. Use 1 oz in a gallon compost tea or no more then 1 quart in 3 gallons compost tea.
    Filtered Water
Important note: when make compost tea it is more effective if you use filtered water instead of city water (which has chlorine which kills bacteria). If you don't have a filter use spring water or solarized water.
Solarized water can be made by placing water into a large glass container (allows the most sun light to contact the liquid) but a large bucket will do. Allow to sit for a day or two, turning every few hours.
Coffee grinds can also be used to increase acidity of tea.
